The Hungry Grasshopper

One of the first cafes of it’s kind in the area, The Hungry Grasshopper continues to be one of my favourite coffee spots in the inner west. Nestled away in the up-and-coming Waratah St strip, the hungry grasshopper epitomises ‘new Haberfield’ while maintaining the passion for good food and coffee that the older Haberfieldians love!

A young and vibrant team strikes a perfect balance between the helpfulness you’d expect and the peace and quiet you crave when sipping a quality espresso.

The space itself is everything you want and more. BIG tables (a huge plus if you’re a cafe study-ite or self-employed), ultra soft blankets for those sitting outside and a self-proclaimed ‘horticulture’ theme they describe as bringing “the outside inside!”I sat at a corner table with a beautiful vase of daisies decorating my workspace 🙂

Today’s meal: smashed avocado, tomatoes, cracked pepper and feta on sourdough. All ingredients as they should be including some of the crumbliest, creamiest feta I’ve tasted in a long time.

My recommendation: if you’re doing the bay walk, park on hawthorne parade near the bottom of waratah st, enjoy the delights of iron cove bay then head on up to hungry grasshopper for some post walk eats, avoiding the crowds and prices of the bay walk’s numerous cafe spots.
